- Education and Counseling of local advocates to provide the best possible representation
NSCLC's Priorities
Health Care
Low-income older adults rely heavily on entitlement programs such as Medicare and Medicaid. Both the federal and state governments find many ways to cut costs, some of which are illegal.
NSCLC advocates for those without a voice in the nation’s capital, in the states and in their communities.
Economic Security
For older adults who are already struggling and for those two thirds of people over age 65 who rely on Social Security for all or most of their income, threats to drastically restructure the program and deny them their only means of financial support are frightening.
NSCLC stands up for the rights low income older adults and persons with disabilities in the face of cutbacks or illegal efforts to deny Social Security or Supplemental Security Income benefits as well as those of other income support programs.
Access to the Courts
Many recent court decisions have challenged people’s rights to challenge federal agencies or Congress’ power to pass civil rights legislation. These are rights that are dear not only to low income older adults, but to all.
The Federal Rights Project seeks to keep Federal courts open to justice so that rights prescribed by laws are enforced.
